EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

DURRINGTON THEATRICAL SOCIETY

Durrington Theatrical Society (DTS) has been running for 60 years. It was first created by a group of mums on a school Parents Teacher Association based in Durrington after a performance of the Pantomime, Cinderella was chosen for their children at school. This pantomime was then taken to the Pavilion in Worthing and therefore a Theatrical Society was born. Today some of the same people are still involved. Last term I took part in their 60th Pantomime, based at Northbrook Theatre, as an Assistant Stage Manager, I have recently joined their Society. Photos of my time during the Pantomime can be found in the link. I believe DTS improves me as a person as I am encouraged to remember a lot of information as well improving my confidence.

STONEWALL

In 1989 a small group of people were struggling against Section 28 of the Local Government Act, this led them to form Stonewall, these people included names such as Sir Ian McKellen and Pam St Clement. The aim of this organisation was to stop attacks on those who identify as LGBTQ+, especially after the riots in 1969.

Recently I went on a Young Campaigners course that looked at the LGBTQ+ and Disabled Society and how to campaign for them. My work as well as photos of the time on the course can be found in the link below. Stonewall encourages me to stand up for what I believe in and to organise events to make change.

WORTHING PRIDE

Worthing Pride was founded in 2018 to promote the equality between all people that lived in and around the Worthing area. I have been involved in Worthing Pride from the first Festival, whether it be in the Park, or at an alternative event. This year I will be back in the Park. I have been taking part in Work Experience with Worthing Pride including meetings. Unfortunately I cannot share what was said due to confidentiality but feel free to have a look at their new website. At the beginning of the event in 2018 I was interviewed by Worthing Herald for an introduction to pride. There is a link to the interview. Being part of Worthing Pride in the past few years has meant that I have met lots of important people and a lot of acts that I originally didn't know existed. This has improved my network.
